She portrayed every
personality in the most
thorough and sensitive
way so as to allow the
audience an immediate
understanding of the
individual characters.
I must say I read the
book and was impressed
by Masters’ ability to
present the people in
such concise form,
but I was not able to
pull out their essence
the way Ms. Kelley so
“Master-fully” did!

Ms. Kelley portrays a tapestry of 30 men and
women, with all their humor and flaws: pride, greed,
confusion, frustration, betrayal, pathos. Whether it be
the immigrants, the adulterer, or the town drunkard,
the audience is sure to be fascinated with the
rapid fire costume and personality changes.
This dramatization of Edgar Lee Masters' award-winning
Spoon River Anthology is set in the 1890's in the
universal small-town of Spoon River, Illinois.
The locals are brought back from the dead to set
the records straight...and most have an axe to grind.

Although written as
narrative poetry, in her
skillful hands, Spoon River translates easily
into drama. With her
imaginative use of
costumes/props, as
well as her easy facility with language and
accents, she was able
to make the many
and varied characters
truly come alive.
-The Boston Globe
With only a few props
and a collection of
hats, she takes on
the personas of 30
characters from this
19th century Illinois
town. The energy,
humor, and perception
you brought to your
multiple roles
transported us
effortlessly across
time and space.
